How to Have the Best Virginia Mountain Getaway

During your Virginia mountain getaway, adventure to the Shenandoah National Park. From towering mountains to fascinating wildlife to fun-filled outdoor activities, this area has it all.

What to Do in the Shenandoah National Park

Embark on a Hike

With over 500 miles of hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park, you’re sure to find one that will meet your skill level, as well as blow your mind with beauty. For those looking for a shorter walk,  the hike to Little Stony Man Overlook is only a 1-mile round trip, following a section of the Appalachian Trail. This will bring you to an incredible viewpoint. For adventurists seeking a gorgeous, but challenging all-day trek, we recommend Old Rag Trail. It’s a  9.2-mile hike that features narrow rock corridors, unique stone formations, and outstanding vistas.

Drive Skyline Drive

This iconic road runs 105 miles north and south along the famous Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park. Skyline Drive is the only public road in the park and features over 70 overlooks along the drive. Some of our favorite overlooks for gazing at the mountains include Spitler Knoll Overlook, Big Run Overlook, and the Range View Overlook

Go for a Bike Ride

Although mountain biking is not permitted on trails or unpaved roads throughout the park, bicycles are allowed along Skyline Drive and paved areas. This is a fantastic way to explore Skyline Drive and mountain views, while still being outdoors and breathing in the crisp, fresh air.

Unwind With a Glass of Wine

After a day spent exploring the mountains of Shenandoah National Park, sit back and relax while sipping on a glass of local wine. Located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, The Blackburn Inn & Conference Center is surrounded by a plethora of fantastic wineries. Some of our favorite wineries near Staunton, VA, include Ox-Eye Vineyards, Barren Ridge Vineyards, and Rockbridge
